How to Get a Copy of a GED Certificate in Indiana

How to Get a Copy of a GED Certificate in Indiana thumbnail
There are two ways to get a copy of your GED transcript.

Once you successfully earned your high-school equivalency by passing the General Educational Development test, or GED, as it is commonly known, you probably went out and got a job and forgot about it. But in the course of going about your life, you may have misplaced your official GED transcript, which is the document proving that you successfully completed it. You may need it to get another job or enter college. If so, in Indiana there are two ways to get a new copy.

Instructions

  1. Unofficial GED Transcript

    • 1

Contact the institution that administered the GED, if you do not need an official GED transcript. Ask if you need an application or if you should simply write a letter. In either case, get the mailing address or fax number and be prepared to give your name as it was at the time that you tested, date of birth and the year you tested for the GED.

    • 2

Write and include a statement asking that the transcript be released to a third party (such as a prospective employer), if that is what you need. If so, also include the name of the person or office that should receive the GED transcript and the appropriate fax number or mailing address.

    • 3

Sign the letter or application and mail or fax it back to the institution at which you tested. Some places may charge a small fee to process the request, according to the Indiana state website.

    Official GED Transcript

    • 4

Download and print out the "Application for Release of Indiana GED Test Scores", which you can get at the Indiana Office of Adult Education website.

Or request the application for your official GED transcript by writing to the Indiana Office of Adult Education at:

      Office of Adult Education
      GED Records
      151 W. Ohio St.
      Indianapolis, IN 46204-2798

Give them your name and address or a fax number at which you can receive the application.

    • 5

Fill out the application for an official GED transcript, once you have it. It asks for all the same information that the local testing institution needs, plus the name of the site at which you tested.

    • 6

Mail or fax the completed application back to:

      Office of Adult Education
      GED Records
      151 W. Ohio St.
      Indianapolis, IN 46204-2798

      or

      Fax: 317-232-0855

The state does not charge a fee to send your official GED transcript.
