Flubber first appeared in the 1961 movie, “The Absent Minded Professor,” with Fred McMurray. But flubber didn’t become a wildly popular playtime item until after the release of “Flubber” in 1997, a remake of the original, starring Robin Williams. Since then flubber has been called lots of things--goop, slime, gak, but it’s all the same slimy, slippery goo that kids of every age love to play with. The most fun thing about flubber, aside from squishing it between your fingers, is that you can make it in your own kitchen. The only ingredient that might seem strange is borax, a laundry product, which you can usually find at your local store.

In one bowl combine 3/4 of a cup of warm water with 1 cup of school glue. Add several drops of food coloring and stir the mixture thoroughly.

In another bowl stir together 2 tsp. of borax with 1/2 cup of warm water.

Pour the mixture from the first bowl into the second bowl and work the mixture with your hands for several minutes.

Store your flubber in an airtight container to keep it fresh for weeks.
