How to Replace a Whirlpool Dryer Lint Catcher

How to Replace a Whirlpool Dryer Lint Catcher thumbnail
Replace the lint filter on your dryer when needed.

Whirlpool Corp. manufactures clothes dryers for residential use. During normal operation, lint is collected in a lint screen to prevent it from entering the duct system inside the dryer. The lint filter, or screen, should be cleaned of lint before the dryer is used each time. If the filter frame is damaged or the mesh screen in the filter is torn, the lint filter needs to be replaced lest the lint pass through the filter and enter the duct system inside the dryer. New lint filters can be purchased from a Whirlpool appliance parts retailer. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

      Open the dryer's loading door.

    • 2

Grasp the lint screen tab which is protruding up from a slot at the bottom of the opening. The tab may have written in it, "Clean Before Each Load" or something similar.

    • 3

Pull the tab straight up to extract the lint screen from the slot. Remove the lint screen, and set it aside.

    • 4

Grasp the new lint screen on its tab. Hold the screen with the text facing you.

    • 5

Align the edges of the lint screen with the edges of the slot, and slide the lint screen down into the slot until it is fully seated. The top edge of the screen frame will be flush with the opening when the screen is fully seated so only the tab will protrude.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the clothes in the dryer take longer than normal to dry, check the lint filter. A clogged lint filter will cause a reduction in air flow in the dryer and prevent the clothes from drying in a timely fashion. If the lint filter is damaged or the mesh screen is torn and the dryer has been used, check the dryer exhaust duct for an accumulation of lint.

  • If lint collects inside the dryer ducts, it can present a combustion hazard.
