How to Obtain a Windows 98 CD
Windows 98 was a significant improvement over Windows 95 and other earlier operating systems from Microsoft. However, it wasn't too long before Microsoft moved on to other operating systems such as Windows 2000 and Windows XP, both of which would eventually be pushed aside by Windows Vista and Windows 7. Windows 98 still works, although you'll need the second edition for stability and better functionality. Microsoft no longer sells Windows 98, which means you'll have to hunt for it rather than simply purchasing it through a major retail store.

1
Find a seller on an online software or auction site that carries copies of Windows 98. Even if a seller doesn't list the software, you can contact the business and ask if it has any unsold original copies. Resellers on sites such as eBay.com and Amazon.com are your best bet for finding copies of Windows 98.
-
2
Check the seller's rating or customer feedback. Whether you go through a general reseller site or a computer software retailer, the business should show some sort of rating system or customer reviews. Selling old software leaves a lot of opening for scams and illegal copies, so make sure the person or company has a track record of satisfied customers. Be sure to check the return policy in case the software isn't functional.

3
Make sure the Windows 98 CD you get comes with a certificate of authenticity with the serial number or product key code. Without these items you won't be able to install the software legally.
-
4
Purchase the CD from the company of your choice and verify you have received all necessary items, including the product code, as soon as your shipment arrives. Follow up with the seller immediately if something is broken or missing.
