How Do I Back Up My BlackBerry Pearl?

Backup your Pearl to ensure you don't lose information.

You should regularly back up your BlackBerry Pearl. Backing up your cell phone will save you from losing important information if you need to get a new BlackBerry or need to restore your current one to factory default settings. Using the BlackBerry Desktop Manager that comes with the phone, you can save all your important phone files on your computer for safekeeping.

Things You'll Need

• BlackBerry Desktop Manager software
• USB/mini USB cable

Instructions

1. Install BlackBerry Desktop Manager software onto your computer. The disc comes in the box with the purchase of the Pearl. If you misplaced it, you can download it for free from the BlackBerry website.

2. Open the BlackBerry Device Manager.

3. Insert the larger side of the USB into an open port of the computer.

4. Insert the mini USB side into the side of the Pearl. The port is on the left side of the phone if the screen is facing you.

5. Listen for the "hardware detected" sound and wait for the drivers to be installed on the phone.

6. Click "Backup and Restore" in the Desktop Manager.

7. Click the "Back up" button to begin backing up the phone.

8. Select a name for the back-up file and click "Save."

9. Wait for the back-up to complete and click "Close" when it is done.
