How to Seal a Cedar Fence
Cedar fences are an attractive addition to your yard as long as they are maintained, but the elements can cause the wood to turn grey and rot, turning your fence into an eyesore. Sealing the wood can keep your fence looking great for years. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Hose down the cedar fence with a garden hose to remove dirt and dust. Do not use a pressure washer as it may damage the wood. Allow the fence to dry.
-
2
Brush or roll a waterproofing sealant such as Thompson's or Olympic waterproofing sealant, in vertical strokes onto the fence. One coat of sealant should be enough.
-
-
3
Add pressure as you roll or brush the sealant into the fence. This allows the sealant to penetrate the wood providing better protection.

Tips & Warnings
You may spray the sealant onto the cedar fence with a pump or air-less sprayer, but you will need to go back over it with a brush. Spraying sealant on the wood does not help it penetrate into the wood which is an important aspect of keeping your wood from deteriorating.
Seal your cedar wood fence annually to keep the wood continually protected from the weather.
