There is currently no way to edit an ebook within Kindle. Many users find it difficult to change the information, especially when they email files to Kindle for conversion, because Amazon automatically edits the metadata. One can download the software called Mobi2Mobi to make changes in Kindle. It is very easy to use and install and requires minimal computer skills in order to run it.

      Download the Mobi2Mobi application from the MobiPerl website: https://dev.mobileread.com/trac/mobiperl/wiki. There are two options in the "Download" section: the zipped source and releases. Choose "releases."

      After the download, unzip Mobi2Mobi.exe.

      Download the latest version of Mobi2mobi GUI from MobileRead Forum: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21763 . Make sure that you do not download the file with a GPL extension.

      Run Mobi 2 Mobi GUI by double-clicking on Mobi2Mobi_GUI.exe. A window will appear where you can set the application's configuration.

      At the upper-right side of the of the Mobi2Mobi window, click on "Set Dir on the Mobi2Mobi Dir field" to select the folder where you want to save Mobi2Mobi_GUI.exe.

      Click on "Set Dir for the Book Directory field" to select the directory of the books that needs editing.

      After setting the directories, make sure that the UseWin32 box is checked.

      You can now start editing your book. Click the "Open File" button and Mobi2Mobi GUI will show the contents of the folder you indicated in the Book Directory field.

      Select and open the book file you would like to edit from the list. Once opened, you will see that the Output File, Book Title, Author, Publisher and Language fields are automatically populated with the ebook's details.

      Edit the book's metadata in the appropriate fields and check the box right after the fields. For example, you can change the book title and then check the box right after the text box.

      Click the "Convert" button after entering the correct information to save the book file. The book is saved with the .mobi extension and is stored in the specified folder

      For books purchased from the Kindle Store, you first have to change the file extension from .azw to .prc before opening it in Mobi2Mobi GUI.

      Open the Kindle Store book in Mobi2Mobi GUI and follow the previous steps---except when changing the book title. You have to use the exth type and exth data fields in Mobi2Mobi GUI.

      Click the exth type drop-down list and choose "updated title."

      Type in the title at the exth data field and check the box next to the field.

Tips & Warnings

  • To make sure that the changes were applied, change the data in the field before you check the box right next to it.

  • Be careful in downloading files over the Internet to avoid infecting your computer with viruses.
