How Do I Set My Citizen Chronograph Watch?

Setting a Citizen chronograph Eco-Drive watch is a simple procedure once you learn the function of the crown and buttons on the case edge. Each button serves a specific purpose depending on which position you set the crown. The crown features two positions: pulling the crown to the first notch is position one and to the second notch is position two. Manipulating the case edge buttons while the crown is in either position will set the functions of the timepiece.

Presetting Procedure

Confirm the power reserve of your Citizen chronograph watch by noting that the second hand moves at one-second intervals. Charge the watch by exposing it to sunlight for up to six hours if the second hand is not moving.

Point the watch east, if you are in the western United States, towards the time station in Fort Collins, Colo., and west if you are in the eastern United States, to obtain reception.

Confirm that the watch is receiving proper signal reception by noting the chronograph minute at the top of the dial. Note that the minute hand will point to “H” for very good reception; “M" for good; “L” for not good; and “NO” for no reception.

Setting the Time and Date

Pull the crown to the first position or first notch. The chronograph second hand will indicate the daylight-saving time setting. Press the 2 o’clock button on the case edge. The chronograph second hand will move to the 30-second position.

Pull the crown all the way out. The second hand will move to “60.” Rotate the crown to adjust the minute.

Press the 2 o’clock button. Rotate the crown to adjust the hour. The time is set.

Press the 2 o’clock button again to adjust the date. Rotate the crown until the correct date is displayed in the window at 4 o’clock.

Press the 2 o’clock button to adjust the month. Rotate the crown until the correct month appears at 5 o’clock on the dial. Return the crown flush against the case edge.

Setting the Chronograph

Press the 2 o’clock button to start the timing of the chronograph. The chronograph second hand at the 6 o’clock subdial will start. The minute timer at the 10 o’clock subdial will move in one-minute increments.

Press the 2 o’clock button again to stop the timing.

Press the 4 o’clock button on the case edge to clear the timer and return the second and minute hands on the subdials to “60.”

World Time

Pull the crown to the first position, or first notch, to locate your home city or the nearest major city to your town.

Rotate the crown to select your home city in the display window at 4 o’clock on the dial.

Return the crown to the flush position against the case. The alarm will sound for 15 seconds.
