Use Lithium AA Batteries

Lithium batteries are a form of battery on the market today. They come in AAA, AA, C and D, and can be one-time use or rechargeable. For those of you who want to live without creating a large carbon footprint, you can cut down on waste in landfills by choosing the rechargeable variety because they can last in storage for up to 15 years, and you can get around 1,000 charges from one battery as long as they are properly cared for. You can use these batteries in virtually any gadget that requires the listed battery sizes. AA lithium batteries are known to last up to eight times longer in digital cameras, where other batteries applied to digital cameras provide a short-term lifespan before needing to be recharged. For this example of how to use AA lithium batteries, we will use a digital camera. Not all digital cameras come needing AA batteries. Some cameras have larger rechargeable batteries that require the whole camera be plugged into the wall instead of detaching the battery from the camera and recharging.

Instructions

    • 1

Unlatch the battery compartment on your digital camera. Each camera is different, so refer to your owner's manual for directions and location. Typically you should use your thumb to slide it out, and the lid should pop up.

    • 2

      Take out the old batteries.

    • 3

Place the new AA batteries inside the camera. Pay attention to the way they are supposed to go in. If they don't go in properly, the camera will not work. You can see which way the batteries go by looking at the battery latch. They will either have a "+" or a "-" sign. The "+" sign indicates that the positive polar end of the battery (with the nipple) must be on that side. The negative polar ends are flat and should be over the "-" signs.

    • 4

      Close the battery latch.

    • 5

Recharge the batteries, if applicable, when the camera begins to slow down or turn off on its own.
