How Do I Turn on the Printer Spooler in Windows Vista?

In Microsoft operating systems such as Windows Vista (and other Microsoft operating systems as well, e.g. Windows 7 and XP), there is a "Print Spooling" service (a "service" is a program or task operating in the background of a computer). This Printer Spooler makes it possible for users to load multiple print jobs at the same time for printing in the sequence in which the job was initiated. If it has been turned off, turning the Printer Spooler service back on is a simple task in Windows Vista.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the "Services" utility. To do this, click on the Start menu, select "Run," type "services.msc" into the search box, then click "OK." Alternatively, right-click on "Computer" (located in the Start menu), left-click on "Manage," open the "Services and Applications" menu, then click on "Services."

    • 2

Select "Print Spooler" from the list of services, then right-click on it and select "Properties." You may also double-click on it to open the "Properties" dialog box.

    • 3

Click to open the "General" tab (if necessary). In the "Service status" section, click on the "Start" button. In the "Startup type" section, select "Automatic" from the menu.

    • 4

Click "Apply" then "OK." You have now successfully turned on the Print Spooler in Windows Vista.
