Notebook batteries seldom last as long as we'd like them to.

The battery is the lifeblood of any notebook computer. Without it, you might have a tiny computer, but you would still be tethered to an electrical outlet when using it. Unfortunately, the reality of using a notebook is that the battery's maximum capacity will eventually be reduced, requiring you to replace or upgrade it if you want to continue using the notebook. Replace or upgrade the battery in your Gateway CX210 if it no longer offers sufficient capacity for you to perform the tasks that you need to.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the computer from the port replicator dock, if it is connected. Turn the computer off, and close the notebook hinge. If the screen is in tablet mode, rotate it so that the screen faces the keyboard before closing it.

    • 2

Turn the computer over so the bottom is facing up. On the underside of the computer, you'll find two release tabs for the battery. One of them locks into place when moved, while the other must be held. Move both tabs, then move the battery out of the body of the computer.

Note that if you are replacing the auxiliary battery rather than the primary battery, the release tab is located under the drive bay where a CD or DVD drive would normally be held. However, rather than having two release tabs, the auxiliary battery may be held in place by an optional retaining screw. Remove the screw, then push the tab to release the battery.

    • 3

Insert the replacement battery into the body of the laptop. One of the release tabs will automatically snap, indicating that the battery is fully installed. The other tab must be moved manually back to its original position, or if the auxiliary battery is the one being upgraded, replace the retaining screw. The battery is now ready to use.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the battery for your Gateway CX210 was manufactured by Sony, it may be subject to a voluntary recall by Gateway. If this is the case, you may be entitled to receive a replacement battery at no cost. See the link in the Resources section of this article for more information.
