How to Graph Whiteboards With Magnetic Backing

How to Graph Whiteboards With Magnetic Backing thumbnail
Magnetic whiteboards offer several graphing opportunities.

A magnetic white board derives its name from its magnetic surface. You can attach sheets of paper to the board with magnets or purchase a variety of lightweight, magnetic objects to stick to the board. Graphing on the board with purchased graph overlays is a snap: Stick on the overlay, and fill in the graph with your information. A second option involves creating your own charts from common materials found in the classroom.

Instructions

  1. Pre-Made Overlays

    • 1

Purchase a pre-made graph overlay at a teacher supply store or a whiteboard supply store.

    • 2

Place the overlay on the whiteboard. Because overlays are magnetic, you won't need additional magnets.

    • 3

Draw on the graph with a ruler and dry-erase markers just as you would on a regular board.

    Graph Paper

    • 4

Cut a sheet of graph paper from a roll (at least 3 feet long).

    • 5

Attach the graph paper to the whiteboard with magnets.

    • 6

Draw on the graph paper with the dry-erase markers and ruler.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you don't have graph paper rolls, look for them at art supply stores, teacher supply depots or drafting supply stores.

  • Don't use regular markers when drawing on the graph paper; the ink can bleed through to the board and permanently mark it.
