How to Change Line Details in Photoshop

How to Change Line Details in Photoshop thumbnail
You can change Photshop lines.

Adobe Photoshop lets you control the appearance of each line you draw. Lines you draw with the line tool are called shapes. Using the shape tool options bar, you can set the line width and color, add arrowheads and apply a preset style to the line. Photoshop includes a large library of preset styles, but you are not limited to using only the predefined styles---you can also create your own custom line styles and modify the preset styles.

Things You'll Need

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3 or higher

Instructions

    • 1

Select the Line tool from the Tools palette. If you don't see the Line tool, it may be hidden underneath another drawing tool.

    • 2

Add arrowheads to your line by clicking on the tool drop-down menu in the options bar. You can place arrowheads at the beginning and end of the line and specify the size and shape of the arrowheads.

    • 3

Select the line color by clicking on the color swatch in the options bar. Then, select a color from the color picker.

    • 4

Set the line width by entering a value in the "Weight" box. When you enter a value, you must include both the numeric value and the unit of measure. For example, you could enter "2 px" to create a line that is two-pixels wide or "1 in" to create a line that is one-inch wide.

    • 5

Choose a preset line style by clicking on the style button in the options bar and selecting a style from the menu. Modify the preset line style by double-clicking on the list of effects in the layer panel.

    • 6

Create a custom line style by applying styles to the line's layer. Access the style settings by either choosing "Layer Style" from the Layer menu or clicking on the Layer Style icon at the bottom of the layers panel. You can change the style later by double-clicking on the list of effects in the layer panel.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Line tool shares a spot in the Tools palette with several other drawing tools: Rectangle tool, Rounded Rectangle tool, Ellipse tool, Polygon tool and Custom Shape tool. To find a hidden tool, click and hold a drawing tool icon to bring up a menu that lists the hidden tools.
