How Do I Get a Copy of a Bankruptcy Discharge Paper?

Bankruptcy discharge paperwork is provided to each debtor at the time the bankruptcy proceedings have been completed. This documentation is necessary so that the debtor can send photocopies to any creditor who is attempting to collect on the debt when that debt was included in the discharge, so as to prevent any further attempts of collection. This documentation should be filed along with other personal documents, but copies may be easily obtained if lost or accidentally destroyed.

• Social Security Card
• Second photo identification (driver's license, passport)

Instructions

1. Visit the court building which handled your bankruptcy proceeding and ask to speak to the clerk of the bankruptcy court, making sure to mention you need a copy of your bankruptcy records. You will be directed to the proper person who is able to handle your request.

2. Provide your two forms of identification when asked to do so, and fill out any paperwork required of you at the time of your visit.

3. Pay any administrative fees requested of you at the same time services are rendered on your behalf. If you are unable to pay the necessary fees, you will not receive the documentation you are interested in until you are able to do so.
