How to Download a FLAC Music File

How to Download a FLAC Music File thumbnail
A FLAC download provides CD quality.

FLAC is a lossless audio format used to download music from the Internet. It provides a CD-quality download, far superior to that of an MP3 file. You don't need any special programs to download FLAC music files to your computer, but you do need the FLAC converter to convert FLAC files to WAV (*.wav). The WAV file maintains the audio integrity of the music track.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the FLAC music tracks you want. Usually, FLAC comes from a musician's site or record-label site that is allowing you to download music directly from the site itself.

    • 2

Go to the FLAC download page (link provided in Resources).

    • 3

Click the download for your operating system. Once finished downloading, double-click the downloaded file to launch the installation wizard. Follow the brief set of prompts to complete the installation.

    • 4

Open the FLAC software. A small window appears in the middle of the screen. Click and drag the FLAC files into the window and select an output location at the bottom of the screen.

    • 5

Click "Extract" to extract the FLAC format to WAV. A new window appears with the progress of the different files. Each file is extracted one at a time. Once complete, a small message at the bottom of the extraction window states the process being finished. You can now listen to the WAV music files.

You don't need to un-compress FLAC. Just use a player that supports FLAC (VLC).
