How to Manage Fonts in InDesign CS3
Adobe InDesign CS3 is a popular desktop publishing application primarily used to create print projects, including flyers, newsletters, brochures, magazines, newspapers and books. InDesign gives authors precise control over a wide range of layout tools, including text, images, typography, color, transparency and visual effects. Though most InDesign settings can be modified from within the program, fonts are a notable exception. Fonts must be managed through either the Windows font utility or an InDesign-specific fonts folder.

1
Close Adobe InDesign CS3. InDesign only loads fonts when the program first launches. As such, font changes cannot take effect with the program open.
-
2
Add or remove fonts using the Windows font utility. Click the Windows "Start" button, select "Settings," then click "Control Panel." Double-click the "Fonts" icon to open the utility. Add fonts by selecting "File" from the menu at the top of the screen, clicking "Install New Font," locating the font file, then clicking the "Install" button. Remove fonts by right-clicking the name of any font and selecting "Delete." Bear in mind that changes made with the Windows font utility affect the management of fonts in all Windows applications.

Add or remove fonts using the InDesign-specific fonts folder. Double-click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop (simply labeled "Computer" in Windows Vista or Windows 7). Double-click the "C:" drive icon, then open the following folders: "Program Files" > "Adobe" > "Adobe InDesign CS3" > "Fonts." Adding or removing font files in this folder only affects the management of fonts in InDesign CS3; no other Windows applications load fonts from this location.
-
4
Open InDesign. Fonts you added in the previous two steps are now available for use within the program. Removed fonts no longer appear.
