Play your PS2 game titles on your PS3

Only a few select models of the Sony PlayStation 3 are backward compatible. This means the system can play video games from the PS2 or the original PlayStation. One of the models that does possess these capabilities is the 80 gigabyte PS3. Use the same basic procedure to play a PS 2 game on the PS3 as you would to play a PS3 game.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the game doesn't function at first, select the PlayStation Online feature on the startup screen. The PS3 attempts to connect to the Internet when a window appears, telling you to update the firmware. Select "OK" and the firmware will update. (This may take several minutes.) Once the update is complete retry playing your video game.
