NiMH batteries are Nickel Metal-Hydride batteries, which are one of several types of rechargeable batteries on the market today. These batteries, when given the proper care and maintenance, can last up to around 1,000 charges. NiMH batteries come in all different sizes, including AA, AAA, C, D, and 9V. Discharging these batteries is simple enough, you just have to have one piece of equipment.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Place the batteries into the device. The device you choose depends on the size of the battery. If it is a AAA battery, the device would be a child's toy; if the batteries are AA, then the device could be a portable CD player or camera. Likewise for the other sizes of batteries.

Plug in the device if necessary.

    • 3

Turn on the device and let it run until it will not turn on anymore. At this point, the batteries are discharged.

Tips & Warnings

  • Charge the batteries to use them again.

  • You can purchase NiMH batteries, chargers and storage units at any electronic or tool supply store.

  • Dispose of leaking batteries and batteries with broken casings immediately. Do not ingest the leaking components. Call poison control immediately if the components are ingested.
