How Do I Test the Sound on My Computer Speakers? thumbnail
New speakers can enhance the sound quality of your PC

These days many people use their computers as home entertainment centers as well as productivity tools. With that in mind, many computer owners are looking for a way to upgrade the speakers on their systems. The speakers that come with most computers are not top quality, so buying third party speakers can vastly increase your sound quality, especially if you carefully test and tune those speakers.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the external speaker port for your computer. The speaker port will probably be located on the front of your computer, and it should have a small graphic of a pair of headphones or speakers printed on it.

    • 2

Connect the speakers to the speaker port and adjust the volume controls on the front of the speaker. Locate the speaker volume icon in your computer's system tray. This icon should be located on the lower right hand corner of the screen, near the clock.

    • 3

Adjust the slider bar to adjust the volume to the middle. Then open the Windows Media Player by clicking on the "Start" button and choosing "All Programs" from the menu. Choose "Windows Media Player" and open a sample file.

    • 4

Listen to the audio clip and adjust the slider bar as you need. Continue to adjust the slider bar until the volume is acceptable. Continue to test the speakers by moving them around as needed to get the best possible sound quality.
