BlackBerry users may occasionally be required to perform a master reset on their devices. If the BlackBerry has frozen, the hourglass display will not disappear, or the device is running very slowly, a master reset may need to be executed on the phone. A master reset will reset the device back to the original factory settings. All applications and data will need to be reinstalled.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Menu" button, located to the left of the trackball on the BlackBerry.

    • 2

Click the "Settings" icon with the trackball.

    • 3

      Click the "Options" icon.

    • 4

      Click the "Security Options" link.

    • 5

      Click the "General Settings" link.

    • 6

Click the "Menu" button. A context menu will appear.

    • 7

      Click the "Wipe Handheld" option.

    • 8

Type the word "BlackBerry" at the prompt and then click the "OK" button to continue with the wipe process. The hourglass will appear for an extended period of time. If the hourglass has not disappeared in 10 minutes, remove the battery for 30 seconds and restart the device to reset. Once the process has completed, the BlackBerry has been reset to the original factory settings.
