How to Climb Up the Social Ladder
In society, there is a hierarchy that defines how people rank on a social scale compared to the other people around them. This class structure can be based on education, financial success or even where you live. If you have ever wanted a more prestigious job or desired a house in the better part of town, you may have wanted to climb up the social ladder, but perhaps weren't quite sure how to do it.

1
Get more training or education to allow you to apply for higher paying jobs. Many companies will only advance people in their organization who have obtained degrees or taken additional training in the field. Consider night classes or online classes to get the qualifications you need to advance.
-
2
Dress the part for the job you want to have. Although many companies now allow employees to wear more casual clothing during the week, most managers and department heads still wear business attire. Visit consignment stores and thrift stores to find affordable clothing that is similar in style to what the higher-ups are wearing.

3
Become a patron of the arts. Many influential people volunteer time and money to museums and theaters. Offer to help with fundraisers and art events. Not only are you giving back to your community, but you will gain access to people who can introduce you to the inner circle that you are trying to get into.
-
4
Get out there and network. Attend after-hours events at your local Chamber of Commerce or join other organizations where you can meet people. If you are concerned about handing out business cards indicating your current job position, give out contact cards instead.
-
5
Remember you are as good as everyone else. It is easy to get intimidated when you are around people who have a higher social standing than you do. Keep in mind that, at one time, many of the people you meet probably began their social climb the same way you did.

Tips & Warnings
Contact cards look like business cards but contain only your name, phone number and an email address. These cards should look like business cards, so refrain from making them overly flashy and make sure your email address is not something inappropriate for a social setting.
Do not lie and pretend to be something you are not. Be genuine, otherwise eventually someone will discover the truth and you will lose credibility.
