If you plan on selling or giving away your PlayStation Portable, Sony recommends performing a factory reset first. This returns the PSP to its factory settings and clears all of your personal information. The PSP 2000 series is the second edition in the lineup, but the process of performing a factory reset is the same for all models.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your PSP and wait for your home menu to load.

    • 2

Select the "Settings" icon, then scroll to "System Settings."

    • 3

Scroll down and select "Restore Factory Defaults." Select "Yes" to proceed. Wait for the PSP to reset.

    • 4

Scroll to the "Settings" icon. Select "System Settings" and choose "Format System Storage" to delete your personal information.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you perform a factory reset, the parental control password reverts to the system default. If you are performing the reset to override the password, use the default password "0000" to set your new password.

  • Performing a factory reset eliminates all data from the PSP, including game saves.
