How Do I Self Mute a Phone?
Today's phones have many capabilities, one feature being the mute button. There may be times you do not want a conversation to be overheard on the phone, or you are in a conference call and proper etiquette dictates you should mute your phone. For whatever reason, it is best to know where the mute button is before you need it.

Inspect the bottom or side of the phone if the mute button is not below the touch pad. Older phones may not have a button to mute the phone, but a slide switch instead. The slider should show in which direction you slide to mute and un-mute the phone.

Look at your telephone owner's manual if you cannot find the mute button or switch. Some mute buttons may be hard to locate.

Call your local telephone company if you cannot locate a mute button or slide switch on your phone. The telephone company may have a numerical sequence you can punch into the phone to provide you with a mute feature. They may also offer a mute feature for a fee.

Try hitting the star key and then the number six on your touch pad phone. With some telephone providers, this may mute your phone. Repeat by hitting the star key and six again to un-mute the phone.
