Choose the right university for you.

Choosing a university is one of the most important decisions that you'll make in your life. Students in the U.K. should look at all factors before making a final decision. For example, if you're interested in studying journalism, you may want to attend the University of Central Lancashire, which is famous for its journalism department. If you are interested in the sciences, you may want to attend Warwick.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a location. The Independent reports that around 20 percent of college students in the U.K. live at home while completing their studies. If you want to save on housing costs by doing the same, you'll need to look at colleges within your area. Alternatively, if you want to live in a particular city away from your parents, you can look in those areas.

    • 2

Find schools that offer your area of study. Even though you may not be sure yet what you want to major in, you should have a general idea of the types of things that you want to study. If a school doesn't offer this, cross it off your list. If you do know what you want to major in, look for schools that specialize in that area.

    • 3

Check the school course requirements. Some schools in the U.K. are more difficult to get in than others. Each program of study has specific admissions requirements. For example, competitive schools, such as the University of Oxford, will require you to have taken A-levels and advanced highers.

Consider the costs. Tuition at schools in the U.K. is set by the government, but some schools have additional college fees. Aside from that, you also have to factor in the cost of living--it will cost more money to attend a university in London than in the countryside.
