The power steering pump pulley on a Chevy controls the hydraulic pump that gives the vehicle power steering. To remove or work on the power steering pump, remove the power steering pump pulley from the engine. The power steering pump pulley is secured to the engine by a bolt in the middle of the pulley. Use a standard socket set and a ratchet to remove the power steering pump pulley from the engine.

      Open the hood of the Chevy and locate the power steering pulley on the engine. Locate the securing nut in the middle of the pulley.

      Locate the correct-sized socket in the socket set for the securing nut in the middle of the power steering pulley.

      Squeeze the power steering pulley with one hand to hold the pulley in place and use the ratchet and socket to loosen the securing nut in the middle of the power steering pulley.

      Pull the belt off the power steering pulley and completely remove the securing nut in the middle of the power steering pulley.

    • 5

      Pull the power steering pulley off the engine and out of the engine compartment.
