How to Fix Sofa Springs
When you start to feel like you are sinking into your couch, or you notice it is much harder to stand up, you may have broken or tired sofa springs. A trip to an upholstery shop can help you solve the problem, but it can be expensive. Replacing broken sofa springs yourself is challenging, but it can add years to a tired sofa. Things You'll Need
- Staple remover
- Seam ripper
- Scissors
- Half-round upholstery needle
- Thread
- Staple gun

Remove the staples holding the bottom fabric in place with a staple remover. Remove the bottom fabric to reveal the jute or webbing on the bottom of the sofa. This layer is where the springs are attached.

Tear out the stitches holding the broken spring in place with a seam ripper or scissors. Wind the spring through the webbing to remove it.

Wind the new spring through the webbing and position in where the old spring was. Using a half-round upholstery needle, make several stitches to hold the spring to the webbing or jute. Tie off the stitches with a knot and trim the thread.

Repeat steps 2 and 3, replacing one spring at a time until all the broken springs are replaced.

Smooth the bottom fabric back over the webbing and staple it in place.
