How Do I Tell What Version of Windows XP I Am Using?
Microsoft Windows XP, like Windows Vista and Windows 7, was released in several different versions with different capabilities and features. Of course, the version of Windows XP running on a computer is typically a mystery to the user. Knowing what version of Windows XP is on your computer is helpful in troubleshooting your system and determining what software is compatible and what features already are available on your computer.

Power on your computer and wait for Windows XP to load.

Click the "Start" button.

Click "Run" to open the "Run" prompt.

Type winver.exe into the "Run" prompt and either press "Enter" or click "OK." Your version information will display immediately.

Tips & Warnings
This method works on Windows 7 and Windows Vista as well. However, instead of clicking the "Run" button in the Start menu, you must search for it in the search bar.
