If you like antique chenille bedspreads, candlewicking might be for you. A line of stitches cut to form little tufts of thread produces a charming design.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Thread a needle with a long length of candlewicking yarn. Check mail-order and Web sources if you can't find this locally.

  2. Step 2

Make a running stitch in unwashed muslin. Pick up 1/8 inch of fabric for each stitch and allow 3/4 of an inch between stitches.

  3. Step 3

Cut the top stitches in half after the pattern is completed.

  4. Step 4

Soak the muslin in warm water.

  5. Step 5

Air dry, and do not iron. The fabric will shrink to hold the stitches in place.

  6. Step 6

Brush or shake to fluff the tufts.
