  • New transmission fluid

To change the transmission fluid on a Mitsubishi Lancer, you will need to raise the front end and remove the transmission fluid drain plate. You will also need to replace the plate's seal and clean the magnets that are inside the transmission. The magnets grab all of the metal debris that accumulates while the transmission is running. Any auto parts store will have the transmission fluid, seal and solvent that you'll need.

Step 1

Raise the front end of the Lancer off the ground using the jack. Rest the front end on jack stands.

Step 2

Locate the transmission fluid drain plate on the bottom of the transmission. Place the drain pan under the transmission plate.

Step 3

Remove the bolts on the transmission drain plate using the ratchet set. Allow the transmission to drain completely.

Step 4

Remove the seal from around the transmission drain plate. Replace the seal with the new one. Remove the magnets from the transmission, and clean them with the cleaning solvent. Replace the transmission fluid filter.

Step 5

Replace the magnets to the transmission. Replace the transmission drain plate to the transmission. Replace the securing bolts to the plate.

Step 6

Open the hood and remove the transmission dip stick. Pour in the recommended type and amount of new transmission fluid. You can find this information in your owner's manual.
