Use Final Cut Pro to edit video.

Final Cut Pro (FCP) is Apple's robust application for digital video editing and finishing. FCP has become the industry standard for digital media content professionals and amateur enthusiasts. Gone are the days of cutting and splicing celluloid in this nonlinear world of multitasking, budget balancing, and deadline sensitivity. Video and audio presentations must be edited with speed and efficiency. The modern video editor has to wear many hats: graphic designer, animator, sound engineer, and visual effects artist, just to name a few. Creativity and precision detail are key in the ever-advancing world of nonlinear video editing and Final Cut Pro is the tool of choice for editors "in the know" because of its versatility, speed and intuitive interface.

Instructions

    • 1

Hit the "A" key or click on the arrow shaped icon in the "Tool Palette" to ensure that FCP recognizes your cursor as the "Selection Tool."

    • 2

Click in the timeline between two adjacent video clips to select the edit point.

    • 3

Click on "Effects" in the toolbar at the top of the screen. Mouse down to "Video Transitions," then "Dissolve" and click "Fade In Fade Out Dissolve." This transition increases the opacity of the outgoing clip, then decreases the opacity of the incoming clip. The result is a smooth fade to black between the two clips.
