How to Add a Screen Saver

Your computer comes pre-installed with several screen savers, but if you want one of your favorite movie, season, place or more, then you need to add it. Thanks to the numerous websites that offer free screen savers, you can add one quite easily.

Instructions

With Installation Wizard

1. Locate a website that offers screen saver downloads (see Resources for two such sites).

2. Search for the screen saver that you want to add to your computer. Browse by category or input a specific search term into the filter bar (if the website offers one).

3. Select the screen saver that you want to add to your computer. Click "Download." Follow the prompts within the installation wizard to add the screen saver to your computer.

Without Installation Wizard

1. Download the screen saver to your computer.

2. Direct the screen saver to save in the following location: C:\\Windows\System32. In Macs, this location is System\Library\Screen Savers.

3. Save the screen saver with the file extension .scr.

Tips & Warnings

• Download a screen saver alternating program to your computer if you want to use more than one screen saver at a time.

• Many screen saver downloads prompt you to download other third party applications to your computer as well--such as toolbars. If you don't want to add any of these extra components, deselect them from the installation wizard before clicking "Install."
