Make an Embroidery French Knot

These dot-like stitches add not only color, but a raised texture to accent an embroidery design.

From Quick Guide: Guide to Knots
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Bring your needle up through to the right side of the fabric at point 1.

  2. Step 2

Twist the thread once around the needle. Hold the needle and thread firmly, but not too tightly.

  3. Step 3

Insert the needle back into the fabric in the same spot, point 1, or right next to point 1. Pull the thread through the fabric.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some experts advocate wrapping the thread two or more times around the needle. Others believe twisting it more than once makes the knot too big.

on 2/1/2006 Don't let the loops around the needle go through with your needle. If you're having difficultly, secure the loops down with a thumbnail to prevent the needle from pulling it through the fabric. Try to get the loops as close to the fabric as possible, and just let the rest of the thread pull through to knot the loops.
