How to Make AVI Slideshows
AVI is a high-quality video format found within most video editors, and making slideshows with those editors is an easy process, even for novice computer users. The slideshows feature pictures, transitions and the ability to add music tracks. If your own video editing software that does not come with the AVI format, you can still create the slideshow and convert it using software like Nero, VLC Media Player and WinAVI video converter.
Instructions
-
-
1
Open your video editing software program. If you own a Mac computer, the already-installed program is iMovie, and Windows users can use Windows Movie Maker for free.
-
2
Create new folders in the "Project Window." In most programs this is done by clicking on a "folder" icon or right-clicking and selecting "Create New Bin/Folder."
-
-
3
Name the folders with different titles to help keep the pictures organized. For example, you could name a folder "Walter's Birthday," "Family Vacation" or "June 2009." Choose whatever way you want to stay organized, but remember to stay organized because you can easily lose track with thousands of photos for the slideshow.
-
4
Import your pictures into each of the folders. Use the "Thumbnail" preview option so that you know what photos you are dragging into each folder.
-
5
Change the preferences of the software to choose the amount of time each photo appears. The default is five seconds, but if you do not change the preference and want each photo on for three seconds, you will have to manually change each photo time later.
-
6
Click and drop the photos into the "Timeline" window. Continue to do this until you have placed every photo you want into the slideshow.
-
7
Play the slideshow to see the order and flow of each of the photos. Make any changes by deleting photos or changing the order of some by clicking and dragging them.
-
8
Add transitions by click and dropping a transition effect in-between clips. The simple and most effective transitions are fades, but you can use special effect transitions to make the slideshow stand out.
-
9
Add music tracks to the "Audio" section of the timeline. Music will add emotion and pacing to a slideshow. Test different tracks to see what type of feel each song brings to the slideshow.
-
10
Render the final movie in the AVI format. Save it to a location where you can easily load it later. If your editor does not offer the AVI format, choose the highest quality format, export it and transfer the file using a video conversion program.
-
11
Test the AVI clip in a media player to make sure everything worked correctly.
