Eyelet embroidery stitches, especially when worked around a tiny hole, produce a lacy effect.

From Quick Guide: Embroidery
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Bring the needle up at the outer edge of the eyelet circle. On an embroidery pattern, the circle will be divided by a series of equally spaced lines radiating from the center to the outer edge (like a tiny pie divided into slices).

  2. Step 2

Backstitch twice between the starting point and the intersection of the next line to the right and the circle's outer edge. You will be back at the starting point.

  3. Step 3

Stitch from the starting point to the center of the circle. Stitch again from the starting point to the center of the circle, then from the center to the intersection of the outside of the circle and the next dividing line to the left.

  4. Step 4

Backstitch twice between here and the starting point.

  5. Step 5

Repeat the sequence all the way around the circle.
