Light emitting diode, or LED, Christmas lights last longer than traditional incandescent bulbs, are energy efficient and better for the environment, according to ChristmasLightsEtc.com. They can be used as both indoor and outdoor decorations. LED lights come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Their shine is brilliant as they distribute light more evenly than traditional lights. They may cost more than traditional incandescent bulbs, but they will last longer and save you money over time.
Step 1
Take out your string of Christmas lights and untangle if necessary. Plug them, one string at a time, into an electric outlet and look for nonworking lights. Remove them and replace with working bulbs. Connect the lights together that you are using, sometimes what worked as a single strand does not work connected to other strands of lights. Repeat the process of finding and replacing until the entire string of lights work.

Find the extra LED lights that you have set aside and find the one with a red mark on the end. This is the light that will make the string of lights blink. Place this bulb in the first section of the string of lights. Notice if there is a place on the string where the lights stop blinking. Take the bulb out at this place and replace with a red-marked LED bulb. You should then see the lights begin to blink. The beginning of each string of lights will need a red-marked LED bulb.
Step 3
Purchase extra LED bulbs, if you do not have any, at your local store. Find a package that has at least one bulb with a red mark on the end. You may need to purchase more than one package depending on the amount of lights you are using for decorations.
