To adjust the draw length on a compound bow, the process normally involves the use of a bow press. Bear compound bow draw length adjustments, however, can be made without the use of a bow press. Draw length must be adjusted to fit the archer's arm length and posture. A short draw length on a bow used by an archer with long arms can affect the trajectory and overall accuracy of the arrow when fired. The length of draw should be adjusted to the arm posture of the individual archer to achieve maximum draw back, as this will ensure a long, smooth shot. Adjusting your Bear compound bow draw length can be performed with little difficulty.
Things You'll Need
- Socket wrench
- Replacement cams
Go to your local sporting goods store, or contact a Bear archery dealer to purchase new cam modules to adjust your bow draw length. The dealer will know how to measure your arm posture to give you the right adjustment of draw. All cam modules are numbered in length of draw. For perimeter weighted modular single cams, number 10 cams are the longest draw length, and number four cams are the shortest. For regular modular single cams, number two cams are the longest draw, and number eight cams are the shortest. All cams are organized in one-inch draw length increments. Purchase the appropriate cam to suit your posture.
Remove the socket-head cap screws from the existing cam module with a socket wrench. Remove the cam module once screws are removed.
Replace with the new cam module, then replace the screws. Ensure that you do not over-tighten the screws upon replacement.
Set the draw stop to the correct position on the new cam module. The draw stop will stop the draw at the corresponding length of the new cam. The cam is numbered on the front, and the latch is on the back. Place the latch at the correct setting for the cam's corresponding draw length.
Tips & Warnings
- Never overdraw your Bear bow; this can cause personal injury or damage the cams and limbs of the bow.
- Never point the bow at anything that you do not intend to shoot or kill.
