Repairing Fine-Line Cracks in Terrazzo Floors

Terrazzo floors are a blend of marble chips or other aggregates usually installed on cement foundations. Because terrazzo usually costs less than marble, it is used more often in homes and commercial buildings. As with any flooring, terrazzo is subject to cracking with foundation shifts which causes unsightly fine-line cracks in the terrazzo floors. In order to prevent the cracks from spreading or widening, you should repair fine-line cracks in terrazzo floors as soon as possible. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Take pictures of the areas of the flooring with cracks, and print the photos with high-quality ink and paper.

    • 2

Compare the photos to the flooring to ensure the colors in the photos are exactly the same as the flooring and that no shading exists.

    • 3

Bring the photos to a home improvement store to select an epoxy to repair the cracks. Epoxy comes in a variety of colors, so use the photos to help select the color(s) that is most likely to blend with the flooring.

    • 4

Squeeze a small amount of epoxy in a disposable plastic container.

    • 5

Place a small amount of epoxy on the end of a toothpick and press the epoxy into the cracks. Repeat this process until you have filled all the fine-line cracks.

    • 6

Allow the epoxy to dry completely before you walk on the repaired areas. Drying time varies based on temperature and humidity, but the area should be fine for foot traffic after 24 hours.

Tips & Warnings
