How to Size a Coat for a Woman
If you've ever shopped for clothes online, then you know how difficult it can be to choose the right size. Luckily, most stores have created guides for helping you choose the right size coat for your body based on your measurements. By using a simple measuring technique, you'll reduce the chance of having to return an item bought online because it doesn't fit.

Stand in a natural position and let your arms fall at your sides. Ask a friend to use the measuring tape to measure your bust size. This measurement should be taken under your arms and around your back. The measuring tape should come together around the fullest part of your bust. Write down your bust measurement.

Continue standing naturally, and slowly bend your body over to one side. Have your friend help you find the spot on your body where your waist creases, usually directly under your belly button. This is where you measure. Have your friend put the measuring tape around your back and over your hips. The measuring tape should come together around your lower abdomen. Write down your waist measurement.

Place your feet together on the floor. Stand naturally, but in a fully erect position. Your friend can now measure your hips. The measuring tape should come around your hips and come together over the fullest part of your rear. Write down your hip measurement.

Visit the website where you plan to purchase your coat. Use the website's size or measurement guide for sizes to find out what your size is. The sizes are based on the three body measurements your friend helped you find. Your measurements will most likely fall within a range of numbers. Choose the coat size that matches up with at least two, but ideally all three, of your measurements.

Tips & Warnings
When measuring, the measuring tape should be held snug against your body, but it shouldn't be tight. In other words, you should feel it, but it shouldn't actually push into your body.
Measurements should be taken in inches, as this is the measurement most stores use to determine sizes.
