How to Create a Goals Poster

Sometimes the best way to stay focused is to have your goals written out and somewhere you can see them easily each day. An ideal way to help you keep track of and achieve your goals is to make a goals poster or vision board. A goals poster simply out lines your goals graphically, in the order they need to be accomplished. A goals poster is something tangible you can use to ensure you stay on track and accomplish the things you want or need to accomplish in a timely manner. Making a goals poster can be an effective way to help you achieve the success you want by focusing your goals and accomplishing them on schedule.

Instructions

    • 1

List your goals in a notebook in the order they will need to be accomplished. If there is an end result to these goals, list it last. If there are dates by which each goal needs to be accompished, be sure to include them. You will use this notebook as the basis for your poster.

Purchase posterboard at a hobby or craft shop. Color or plain white will do. Choose something that you won't be able to easily ignore. If it takes bright colors to get your attention, purchase neon-colored posterboard. You want a goals poster you will be compelled to look at every day.

    • 3

Place your posterboard on a large, flat surface and begin at the top. You may want to sketch in your notebook how you plan to lay out your poster so you have a visual idea as you begin working. Use shapes and different color markers to indicate the importance of your goals and the status. Consider writing your goals and connecting them by lines, in a tree fashion, connecting related goals with differnt colors. You might use a square to indicate alternative goals and squares for must-accomplish goals.

    • 4

Include newspaper and magazine cutouts, drawings, or personal photographs if they are related to the main goal or any of the stepping stone goals on your poster. The object of a goals poster is to keep you focused on your goals. Sometimes a picture truly is worth a thousand words.

Tips & Warnings

  • You might find it helpful to work up a key chart in your notebook to help you reference the colors and shapes on your goals poster so you can easily understand what they mean at a glance.
