Open your computer. Unplug all cables and the power supply. Depending on the model of an eMachine you have, there may be thumb screws or you may need a small Philips head screwdriver to remove the case screws. After removing the screws, slide the side panel off and set it aside.

Look behind the power button and follow the cable to its location on the motherboard. Gently unplug it from the mother board. If the button is attached with a screw, remove it and set it aside. If the button snaps into place, depress the wings gently and push it gently until it releases.

Install your new power button. Reversing the removal instructions, press the new power button gently into place and secure with a screw, if required. Plug the cable into the location on the mother board that the original button occupied. Plugging this cable into the wrong position will not hard your motherboard, but the computer will not start.

Replace the side panel and either return the screws or tighten the thumb screws. Reattach the cables and power supply. Push the power button to start the boot cycle. The computer itself will not indicate that there is a new power button.
