Replacing the blade on your Craftsman Eager 1 will improve the look of your lawn.

Keeping the blade on your Craftsman Eager 1 mower sharp will keep your yard looking professionally groomed. Dull or nicked mower blades can cause your grass to look ragged so the mower's manufacturer recommends that you change blades after every 25 hours of use. Changing your Craftsman Eager 1 blade should only take 10 or 15 minutes with the proper tools. You can speed up the process if you have a sharpened blade in reserve. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Begin the blade-removal process when your gas tank is as close to empty as possible and the engine is cool. Disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent the mower from accidentally starting while you are working on it. Tilt the mower on its side, making sure the air filter and carburetor are facing up.

    • 2

Put on heavy gloves to protect your hands from being cut while handling the blade. Wedge a wood block between the blade and the mower deck to prevent the blade from spinning while you remove it.

    • 3

Use your adjustable wrench to unscrew the blade bolt in a counterclockwise motion. Remove and set aside the blade bolt, washer and hardened washer.

    • 4

Place the replacement blade on the blade adapter by aligning the blade's two holes with the raised lugs on the adapter. Pay special attention that you have put the trailing edge of the blade face up.

    • 5

Reattach the washers and screw on the blade bolt in a clockwise manner with a torque wrench. Quit tightening the blade bolt once its torque is set between 35 and 40 ft. lbs. Tilt the mower back up on all four wheels.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you have your blade off the mower, it's a good idea to check the key inside the hub of the blade adapter. The key cannot be damaged in order for your mower to work properly.

  • While the mower is tilted to its side, remove any built-up grass residue from the mower deck and chute assembly.
