Your computers IP address is the fingerprint of your computer. Your computers IP address will let other websites know exactly who you are and where you are from. Every computer has a different IP address. Your computer has three parts to the IP addresses known as the main IP address, the subnet mask address and the default gateway address. There are many websites that will allow you to check your IP address and you can also check all three phases of your IP address from your computers start button.

      Click on the start button at the bottom left-hand side of your computer.

      Move your mouse over to the second column of options and click on the "run" option.

      In the "run" window box, type in the letters "cmd" without the quotation marks and click the "ok" button..

      Now you will see a big black window. This is the command prompt window. Look for the blinking cursor and type in the phrase "ipconfig/all" without the quotation marks and hit the "enter" button on your keypad.

      The command prompt window will now show all of your computers IP information. You will see the default gateway IP address below the IP address and the subnet mask address.

Tips & Warnings

  • To close out of the command prompt window, simplyu click the "X" at the top right-hand side of the box.

  • You can also release and reset your IP address from the same command prompt window.

  • Do not change anything in the command prompt window or it might reset your IP address. Only type in the phrase "ipconfig/all" and hit enter to find all of the IP information.
