How to Repair Floating Vinyl Flooring
A floating vinyl floor consists of a series of tiles that are interlocked together. A normal vinyl floor is glued to the floor. A floating floor is not attached and moves as an independent piece. Although you can repair a floating vinyl tile in the usual ways, including removing a damaged piece and installing a patch, this is not necessary. With a floating floor, it's a simple process to unsnap the damaged tile and replace it. Does this Spark an idea?

Use a screwdriver to remove any floor molding that covers or holds down the edge of the floating vinyl floor.

Unsnap the damaged tile from the tiles that surround it.

Check to make sure the replacement vinyl tile matches up with the pattern in the floor, if there are various colors or patterns of tiles on the floor.

Write numbers on the backs of the tiles if the damaged area is in the middle of the floor, or the tiles come in different sizes and patterns. The numbers will help you remember where each tile goes as you reconnect the floor.

Snap a new piece of vinyl tile in place.

Place any floor molding back in place.
