How to Ghost a Virtual PC

Creating a "ghost" of a computer means creating a backup copy that can be used to restore or overwrite the original in case something goes amiss. When discussing "ghosting" a Virtual PC, the process is fairly straightforward, as all of the salient virtual files are contained within the ".VMC" file created when the virtual PC is originally "built." Therefore, ghosting a virtual PC requires only that you find and locate this file.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your "Start" menu and click on the "Search" button.

    • 2

Select the option to search for "All Files and Folders."

    • 3

Type in the name of your virtual PC file (whatever you named the computer when you originally created it) with the ".vmc" extension and press the "Search" button.

    • 4

Click on the file found and press "Ctrl" and "C" at the same time.

    • 5

Click on your desktop and press "Ctrl" and "V" to paste a copy of the file to your desktop, which can then be used as a ghost image in case something goes wrong with your virtual PC.
