The Best Way to Thaw a Frozen Steak
Steaks can be thawed or defrosted in a number of ways, but certain methods encourage the growth of bacteria or affect the taste and texture of the steak. The best way to defrost a steak is in the refrigerator as it will keep your steak juicer and more flavorful than other methods. This method will also conserve energy because the frozen steak will help keep your refrigerator cool and it prevents bacteria from forming as the steak is continually kept cold. Remove the steak from the freezer. Leave the wrapping on the steak.

Place the wrapped steak on a plate or tray to catch any moisture during the thawing process. Although this defrosting method will not produce much moisture as the steak should absorb most of the moisture, the plate is necessary for food safety for the other items in the refrigerator.

Place the plate of steak in the refrigerator.

Remove steak from refrigerator after it has thawed. The time needed for the steak to thaw will vary on the size and thickness of the steak.

Remove the wrapper from the steak.

This process can take an entire day so be sure to plan ahead.
Steak defrosted in the refrigerator can be refrozen within one or two days if desired. Only refreeze the steak if it has been continually kept in the refrigerator and not allowed to warm up.
All raw meat contains at least some bacteria. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling as well as any surfaces the steak might have touched prior to cooking.
