Bulb planter drills are used to create holes according to the planting depth requirements for bulbs. Generally, bulbs need to be planted two to three times the depth that they are tall. Measure you bulb to know how deep to drill the hole in your clay soil. Because clay soil is typically water logged and difficult to drill through, amend it in the fall using a few simple steps. Spread a 4-inch layer of compost over the area and incorporate the compost 6 inches deep into your garden bed.

    • 5

Flatten your planting area with the back of a rake.

    • 6

Press your bulb planter drill into the soil, and drill the correct amount of inches into the soil for the bulb you are using.

Place the bulb inside the hole with the roots facing down, and cover it with your amended clay loam soil.

Tips & Warnings
