Knit the body of the hat. With size six needles, cast on 90 stitches. Work in knit 1, purl 1 rib until the hat is 6-1/2 inches long. Change to size eight needles. Knit every row until the hat is 10-1/2 inches long, and then begin to decrease.
For the first row of the decrease, knit 8, and then knit 2 together. Repeat to the end of the row. Knit the second row and all even rows. For all odd rows, knit one fewer stitch before knitting 2 together (so for Row 5 you will knit 7 and then knit 2 together to the end of the row, and so on). For the final row, knit 2 together all the way around. Cut the yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Thread the yarn through the remaining stitches and pull tight.

Create the bobble. Cut two circles of cardboard to whatever diameter you want your bobble to be. Cut 1 inch holes in the middle of each circle (your cardboard circles will look like donuts). Put the two pieces of cardboard together and wrap the yarn around the cardboard, threading it through the hole in the center. Cover the entire donut shape with yarn. The more yarn you use and the closer you wrap the yarn, the fuller your bobble will be.
Cut the yarn around the outside edge of the donut shape. Wrap a piece of yarn around the center of the bobble. Leave a 6-inch tail to attach the bobble. Cut the cardboard and remove it. Fluff the bobble and trim the yarn until it's even.
