How to Knit a Cloche Hat
A cloche is a hat that is shaped similarly to a beanie style, but it comes down low on the eyebrows and has a slightly wider, looser-fitting brim. Knit a cloche hat for yourself or a friend and dress it up with some finishing embellishments. You will have a flirty, feminine hat that will last for years.

1
Use your circular needle, and cast on enough stitches to make your hat approximately 21 inches in circumference. If you use worsted weight yarn and size 8 needles, this would be approximately 85 to 90 stitches.
-
2
Knit your hat in stockinette stitch; this will allow the brim to roll slightly, which will add to the feminine, soft look of the finished hat. For stockinette stitch when working in the round, knit every stitch in every round. Place a stitch marker in between the first and last cast-on stitches of your first round before joining, so you will work all subsequent rounds evenly.

Continue the stockinette stitches until the hat measures approximately 6 inches tall. Knit the rest of the rounds with double-pointed needles; in order to do this, simply slide your working stitches off of your circular needle and onto your double-pointed needles, dividing the stitches evenly among three needles.

4
Decrease the rest of the rounds of the hat to form the top. In order to do this, place a knit two together stitch every few stitches around; for example, if you have 90 stitches, you would knit eight stitches and then knit two together, and repeat around. Alternate decrease rounds like this with rounds where you knit every stitch in order to make a smooth, even decrease.

5
When you get to 10 stitches or fewer on your needles, thread a large eye blunt needle onto your working yarn, and weave it through all of your working stitches. Pull out the knitting needles, and pull tightly with your large eye blunt needle. Pull the working yarn back through the inside of the hat, and weave in the end to secure the hole closed.

6
Embellish your hat by sewing a cluster of three small buttons or one large button to the front side of the hat, where the temple would be. This will add a final polished touch to your finished cloche.
