How to Transfer Credits for an Ed.D Program

If you want to obtain your doctorate in education you might be looking at transferring to a different college. However, if you already have credits towards the Ed.D at one school, make sure to transfer the credits, otherwise you must retake the classes after enrolling at the new school. Retaking the classes not only costs extra money but extends the period before your graduation.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact your current school's transcript department. The department has a full, official listing of all the classes you have taken at the school.

    • 2

Pay the fee for the official transcript. Although the current school can print a document for you for free, you need an officially marked and sealed transcript to get credit at your new university.

    • 3

Submit the official transcript to the admissions department of the new school you are transferring to. You may need to give the department a course catalog with a description of the classes you took. This helps the school determine if the classes are transferable. Do this after you are already accepted into the school's Ed.D program.

    • 4

Wait for the new school to accept the transfer credits. The admissions department can explain why certain classes aren't accepted off the official transcript.

    • 5

Sign up for classes once you know what classes you still need to complete your Ed.D program.
