1
Make a checklist of all the things that you'll need for the pageant. This includes your clothes for the different segments, makeup, items for the talent program and shoes to match your outfits. If you'll be traveling for the pageant, you'll also need items for travel, such as a toothbrush, your favorite shampoo and pajamas.

2
Decide on hairstyles to go with each outfit. If you'll be doing the hairstyle yourself, do a few practice runs to make sure you get it right the day of the pageant. Make a list of all of the things that you need to create the style—blow-dryer, curling iron, pins—so that you can be sure you won't forget anything.

3
Read up on current events. The interview portion of a pageant often features questions about the news. It's important to know what the interviewer is talking about when he asks a question. You can read popular news websites, such as CNN and the New York Times. If you're participating in a small, local pageant, you should pay special attention to local news and issues.
-
4
Practice your talent. Whatever you choose to do for the talent segment, you should spend time practicing every day to ensure that the performance goes well.
-
5
Avoid sugary and salty foods, which can cause water retention. Drinking water—at least eight glasses a day—will help you to stay hydrated and can also reduce water retention. Instead, focus on eating lean protein, whole grains, fruits and vegetables.
